“There are nearly 100 homestay inns in our village, which can receive up to 4,000 people. But in the summer holidays it is still hard to find a room,” said Luo
Zhihong, secretary of the Party branch of Jindong Village.
Every summer vacation, tourists from all over the country will beat the heat in Jindong Village, most of whom are retired citizens preferring a long stay.
Jindong Village, located in Oujiang Town, Guidong County, Chenzhou City, is a demonstration site for rural tourism in the whole county and is known for its long-lived and healthy residents.
With an average elevation of 890 meters, Guidong was rated as “the county with the highest negative oxygen ion concentration in China” by Shanghai China Records Headquarters in September, 2012.
“Our homestay inn is almost full from the end of June to September every year. We can earn over 200,000 yuan during more than 3 months,” Luo Peng said happily, who is a villager in Jindong Village.
After Jindong became a popular tourism destination in 2015, Luo Peng quit his job as a public official and went home to open a homestay inn called “Tianxinge” to receive visitors.
In recent years, Guidong County has invested in renovation of the environment of Jindong Village in Huizhou-style, adhered to the concept of integrated growth of culture and tourism, and made efforts to develop wellness tourism.
Driven by the popularity of homestay inns, Guidong has gradually improved its infrastructure and public service facilities. Wellness tourism has become an important carrier of rural revitalization in Guidong County.
